INV Group

Woking, Surrey, 06 January 2025Invuse, a digital transformation specialist and expert in LocalGov Drupal (LGD), has partnered with Essex County Council to deliver a fully redesigned Schools Infolink site — replacing the previous platform under tight time constraints while improving usability, accessibility and content quality for schools, parents and council colleagues.

Faced with the imminent retirement of the existing system, Essex County Council engaged Invuse to design, develop and launch a new Schools Infolink platform built on LocalGov Drupal. Combining research, accessibility work, UX design and content transformation, Invuse delivered a future-ready service on time and to high user-centred standards.

Project Highlights

  • Urgent transformation under pressure: The original Schools Infolink platform was due to expire within four months, making a rapid redesign and migration a priority.
  • LocalGov Drupal migration: Invuse led the design and build of a modern LGD site, rewriting and migrating more than 250 pages of content.
  • Accessibility and compliance: A comprehensive accessibility audit ensured the new site met WCAG 2.2 AA and GDS standards, identifying and resolving usability challenges.
  • User research and testing: Invuse undertook discovery activities, analysed existing content and behaviour, and engaged stakeholders to inform the new information architecture and design.
  • Training and future planning: A bespoke LocalGov Drupal training session equipped Essex County Council teams with the skills to maintain and continuously improve the platform.

Outcomes and Impact

  • Faster, more efficient user journeys: Overall user journeys are approximately 38% faster, making information easier to find for education professionals and families.
  • Content streamlined: A 21% reduction in pages eliminated outdated, duplicated or unnecessary material.
  • Improved compliance: 66% of identified accessibility and usability issues were resolved during the redesign process.
  • On-time delivery: The new Schools Infolink site launched on schedule, overcoming a challenging deadline with careful planning and execution.

Clare Ovenden, Education Information Manager at Essex County Council, commented:
“This was a challenging project due to the volume of content, pressure of a short deadline and complexity of having both public and secure areas. But Ryan and his team steered us expertly through and we now have a high quality, modern website that all our users – both ECC colleagues and schools – are extremely appreciative of.”

Jamie Garrett, Managing Director of Invuse, said:
“We were proud to partner with Essex County Council again to deliver the Schools Infolink transformation under such a tight timeframe. By combining user research, accessibility best practice and LocalGov Drupal expertise, we helped the council deliver a more intuitive, compliant and effective platform that truly serves its users — and equips their team for long-term success.”

This project further underscores Invuse’s commitment to helping local authorities improve digital services through user-centred design, accessibility excellence, and robust technology foundations.
